Batman as the new bond
In reguards to technology, Quantum of Solice is a definate dissapointment as a Bond film. Sure the movie is action packed probably more than any of the previous 007's, but the gadgets were always a key part of Bond's character. The new movie had almost no gadgets simply cell phones and guns. Batman, the Dark Night, however, has taken over the gadget aspect and had numerous new technological ideas. Also action packed, I think that Batman is becoming the new face of this type of film. Turning from the previous gothic style formated by directors such as Tim Burton, the newer films have become a traditional new age action hero steryotype but manage to incorporate great acting and plot diversity.
More on media
In addition to the political influences the media has, it is also helping to damage the priorities of our and upcoming generations. In a gender aspect specifically, women are taught at a very young age that appearance is the most important thing in life. They grow up modeling themselves after women who are painted up and graphically enhanced to create a billboard or magazine cover. These idealisms created by the media can easiy cause young women to become uncomfortable with thier natural bodies and cause them to begin eating dissorders. More recently, men are having the same effect brought upon them. More than the body image though, men are told that strength and success are the most important factors in life. The media is bringing on extreme binaries that is helping to keep our nation segregated and rut stuck. We need to get over the binaries! Media sources need to become more moral instead of profit seeking!
Media effects
It is crazy how large of an influence media has on all of us. I think that journalists need to take their jobs more seriously from a moral stance rather than an opportunistic one. The recent presidential election is supportive evidence for this idea. Both candidates were targeted all year reguarding very little about their actual political attributes. McCain pointed out that Obama was a cigarette smoker...Oh noooo!...an in return Obama's campain helped bring to light how idiotic McCain's running partner was. Things like this distract those who are making un-informed decisions on the matter. I have'nt reasearched every aspect of their runnings, but I have definately tried to obtain several points of few on each candidate and find simple facts of their pasts. The media can sway many peoples decisions though and also just creates unrealistic idealisms for the people to try and live by.
Dreamweaver
Two years ago I had to take a telecommunications course at CU-Boulder. Not even knowing what that was, I was shocked by the class and it prooved to be extremely difficult. 00110010 - This meant absolutely nothing to me but now I understand that this is the binary code and that most systems are built upon the simple principle of two's. We later went into html and had to form a website from scratch wich was a real challenge for someone as un tech savy as myself. Now, back at the Fort, my Interactive Media Productions course has introduced "dreamweaver" to me. I think that it is really cool that there is a far easier way of creating a website than programming it from scratch.
HALO
Now I am not a big video game fan but Halo is definately an all around good time. I do not agree that it is in any way beneficial for the mind, and parents should not allow it to influence their children at all. However, the game is simply fun. When I was younger I spent hours playing sega and super nintendo. I finally got the n64 and played it till my hands were sore. After that new games and systems began coming out and I lost all interest. I bought a gamecube but probably played it a mear 30 times. After about a year or so with no gaming except the occsional relapse of drunken Kart and Smash, my friend finally convinced me to play Halo on xbox 360. Three hours later, I was hooked. I'm not saying I would ever go out and buy it, but every time I visit either of my two best friends that is definately something we can all enjoy. It's odd that sitting around killing each other can bring so much glee to the lives of good friends.
Music gernerations
This post is dedicated to the music artists who have made the charts the last decade. PLEASE STOP! and go back to mcdonalds or wherever you were working before. I don't know if it's just a lazy generation or if we've actually ran out of ideas for good music in general. Now, there are those few that are actually making something enjoyable, but a large percentage is simply terrible. The emo rockers, and the techno ravers. The gangsta rapers and the country/pop stars. The past decade has definately been the most dissapointing music generation I can think of. I have to thank "King's of Leon" for lightening up the era with some truly great music and suggest that everyone checks them out.
Guitar hero
Oh my god... I don't get it. I've played guitar hero a total of 4 times and I still have no interest in ever playing again. It's not that I am bad at it, I actually scored fairly well for a beginner playing the intermediate levels. The thing I don't get is that the people I know who are good at the game, have played it over and over and it has taken them a long time to progress to the point that they are at. My question is, why bother spending so much time learning how to play a fake instrument, when you could spend the same amount of time learning a real one. You may not sound as good as the guitar hero does, but by the time your fairly decent at the video game I bet you could have mastered the basics of a real guitar. I just don't get this source of interactive media.

Wear a Condom
Great idea for an educational game. The girls managed to create a game that teaches about contraceptives and warns of std's. The game is actually alot harder than I thought it would be but it is pretty fun as well. I havn't gotten close to beating it yet but i'll keep trying. It is a very impressive first videogame and I think that their group did a great job.
espn.com
espn.com is definately one of the most advanced websites to date. It updates constantly and reports the scores and stats of each game. NFL, NBA, MLB... From high school recruits, to professional, this website reports all things sports. Clips of games and interviews are available as well as places to cast votes on favorite players and teams. It is also very interactive. It has a several message boards for posting as well as Fantasy sections for gaming at home. Espn.com really is a one stop center for all things sports.
mind 42
mind42.com is a great site for mapping ideas. With a basic organizational tool, you can create outlines that are clear and easy to follow. It allows you to categorize your most important ideas and then branch each of them out into smaller sub-categories. It is a simple tool that anyone can use for free to professionally begin forming a gameplan or framing a storyline.
mind testing
One of the projects this semester was to select a mind strengthener and report the effects. I selected to hang all of the posters and paintings upsidedown in my room. Supposedly this was going to strengthen my brain power. I have had my things upsidedown for over a month now and although at first I attempted to focus on them more, I have actually just ignored most of my posters the past few weeks. I have, however, noticed one painting quite a bit and have realized that it could have been painted either way. I guess this simple focus factor is actually a brain exersize in itself.
cam riding
Attempting to follow cam while snowboarding prooved to be more difficult than I had anticipated. It was very hard to keep the other rider in the shot and near impossible to try and keep them centered for any amount of time. Another part that made it harder was that it was very difficult to use the camera with gloves on. In order to save time I had to ride most of the time without my gloves on. My hands of course became numb very quickly.

Technology
It is amazing to me how fast technology is changing. I remember growing up and listening to records and thought it was awesome when I got my first walkman. In ten years we have gone from a a highly damageable media holder that held an average of about 12 songs to having the current ability of loading our entire music library onto something that can fit in your pocket. To top it off, the same thing can also be your internet source, telephone, and camera.
IN reguards to the hulu clip below
Hulu.com is definately one of the most useful websites for my personal life. Not being big on tv, and also working seven days a week and going to school, the abulity to watch the few shows I really like on demand is awesome. It is legal and free with limited commercial time so you actually spend less time then if you where watching it on regularly scheduled television. It is also great for those who don't like spending money renting movies and get bored of their own collection. Hulu offers a large selection of full length movies as well as short clips.

Pre-production
Coming up with an idea for this project was probably the most difficult part of the pre-production stage. I finally decided to do a pick my death type comedy. Not trying to be morbid, I'm hoping that I can turn it into something people want to watch and enjoy. Trying to follow a similar based comedy to "Anchorman" video below. Its definatelly different but hoping worth laughs as well.

EMERGENCE
This radio lab was very long but it had some very interesting parts. I really liked the beginning talking about the firefly's flashing in unison and it blows my mind that such simplex creatures can sincronize so well when alot of humans cannot even clap together. The cup of coffee segment was difficult to listen to but was still pretty interesting. Diverting to the Woody Allen movie the show made me question how we do think. It's odd that we are on autopilot so much. Who knows, there could be little people running our minds and reminding us to breath and simple stuff like that. So what is our concience? Since there are so many things going on in our minds, the show tells us that there has to be something that combines the knowledge to form a single idea. This show had great editing and soundbyte usage. It was entertaining to listen to however it definately had to much information thrown into an hour.
